ANDY Preece has told his players to put all FA Cup thoughts on the back-burner and concentrate on getting Worcester City's league campaign off the ground.

Monday night's shock giant-killing of Accrington Stanley generated a sense of euphoria among City supporters.

And if the fairytale continues with a victory at Chippenham Town on Saturday week, sending Worcester into the FA Cup's second round for the first time in 22 years, the club's feel-good factor and profile will rise even further.

But for the time being, player-manager Preece is desperate to keep a lid on the elation surrounding the dramatic 3-2 triumph over Stanley and focus all the attention on Saturday's visit of Barrow in Nationwide North.

Improving City's poor league position is top of Preece's priorities and he is refusing to take his eye off the most important and immediate job in hand.

"We've done great in the FA Cup and there is another game to look forward to," said Preece. "But we must focus on improving our league position.

"That was one of the first things I said to the players after the game. At the end of the day, the cup run will only last for so long.

"But we must not forget where we are in the league. We need to get two or three results and move ourselves up towards mid-table."

Worcester have lost six of 11 league games. However, in their previous two defeats, single-goal reversals to pace-setters Northwich Victoria and Nuneaton Borough at St George's Lane, City deserved far more after creating an abundance of clear-cut chances.

Added to two rousing displays against Accrington Stanley, Preece insists his side are building good momentum to halt their league blues.

He added: "We've started to believe in ourselves in the last four games and we are playing as well as any team in this division.

"We've only lost two in our last eight games, so things are looking up. We just need to keep the momentum going and take it into Saturday's game."

Les Hines, Nick Colley and George Clegg will be considered for selection against Barrow following intensive training sessions this week.

Clegg appeared as a substitute in the FA Cup after recovering from a hamstring attachment problem, while Hines and Colley have been absent for over a month with respective thigh and hamstring injuries.

Preece admits there is no pressure on Graham Hyde to feature on Saturday after the City skipper's wife suffered complications with the birth of their baby boy last weekend.
