BARBOURNE AC matchman Terry Box improved on his previous week’s runner-up spot in order to narrowly win at Woodside Fishery, near Cleobury Mortimer.

Using tactics more akin to pleasure fishing, Box secured his second victory on the venue by taking carp to 4lbs on floating bread from peg 27 for a 38lbs 4oz winning total.

Runner-up Lee Griffiths bagged 33-10 of similar-sized fish to the scales with corn offered into the margins on peg four.

Andy Wheeler was third with a meat-fed 29-2 from peg 12 to beat Nigel Hobday, who lost his first six carp before netting 28-0. The next Barbourne AC contest is in two weeks at Brockamin.

Mark Smith (Lakeside Tackle) used his knowledge of the Bluebell Wood Pool at Leigh Sinton Fishery to win the open contest.

After starting on the pellet waggler, Smith changed his approach to paste in the margins and netted carp to double figures in his winning 98-14 haul.

Second was Carl Hodges with 94-0, all caught on the method feeder with eight-millimetre pellet hookbait.

Alan Higgs (Club 2000) was third with a meat-caught 44-13.

There will be another open at the fishery on Sunday.

With 21-0, Steve Hope’s all-carp net came off peg seven to meat and maggot bait in the margins.

Seasoned campaigner Len Merrill was third with 16-7 from peg 14 and Tony Hawker fourth with 15-0. All money raised went to the local cancer charity.

Members of Portobello AC swapped their big weight approach on commercial fisheries for more delicate tactics at the Droitwich Canal at Egg Lane.

Like all the top contenders, Pete Coldrick offered breadpunch bait across to the far bank reeds to net 3-15 of roach and rudd for a narrow win.

Gary Brixton weighed 3-3 with the same approach and third was Colin Pettifer, who took 2-14 to the scales. Fourth-placed Alan Tibbetts caught 1-15.
