WORCESTERSHIRE sprinter Katrina Hart sent a message out to her rivals ahead of next year’s World Athletics Championships after claiming 100m Commonwealth Games gold.

The 20-year-old, from Stock Green, raced to a British record in Delhi, clocking 14.36 seconds to pip Jenny McLoughlin of Wales to gold in the T37 disability event.

With Hart set to travel to New Zealand in January for the World Championships, she believes she is on track for a podium finish in the 200m as well as the 100m.

“I didn’t get off to a good start but Jenny pushed me and that’s why I got a personal best,” said Hart, who is visually impaired.

In the pool, Wyre Forest flyer Amy Smith, who finished fifth in the 100m freestyle, qualified for her second final in the 50m freestyle.

However, Evesham’s Scottish swimmer Cameron Brodie bowed out of the semi-finals of the 100m butterfly — finishing 14th in 55.39 seconds.
