STOURPORT picked up their first England Hockey League Men’s Conference West win of the season.

Phil Lashford boosted their fight at the bottom of the table with the only goal at fellow strugglers University of Birmingham on 58 minutes.

But the Wyre Forest side also suffered disappointment when they dropped a two-goal lead at home to fifth-placed Havant.

Alex Hollway and Lashford fired Stourport in front but Samuel Hatherley and Simon Hanley hit back with goals.

Meanwhile, Stourport women continue to top Midlands League Division One after also gaining four points from a double-header.

Player-of-the-match Rene Johnson’s second-half goal gave them a 1-0 win at Wellingborough.

Stourport then fought out a 1-1 draw with fellow high-fliers Burton.

The hosts controlled much of the match but went behind to a fortunate strike only for Heidi Devey to level before half-time.

Player-of-the-match Pippa Lewis orchestrated many of the attacks but keeper Sophie Woods denied Burton all three points with a late save.

The mid-table seconds had mixed results in the Midlands Conference West.

Their highlight was beating Wem 4-2 with Amy Ryan, Holly Lashford, player-of-the-match Lauren Homer and Shelley Tromans on target.

Stourport went three goals up but Wem pulled two back by the break before the hosts secured victory.

They lost 4-2 to Shrewsbury, though, with Abbie Yapp and Homer scoring in the first period and Hayley Ryan impressing as their player-of-the-match.

Stourport thirds fell to a surprise 2-1 defeat at Bromsgrove seconds in Worcestershire League Division One.

Stourport’s player-of-the-match was Viv Wakeman in goal, while Kate Bailey scored from a short corner supplied by Lora Symonds.

The fourths went down 2-1 to Tenbury seconds in Division Two with Chey West on target and Indi Wilding voted player-of-the-match.

Player-of-the-match Fran Taylor put Stourport fifths ahead at King’s Heath seconds but they had to settle for a 1-1 draw after a debatable penalty flick.
