ANDY Short played a starring role as England under 20s emphatically maintained their 100 per cent record in this season’s Six Nations with a 74-3 victory over Italy at the Recreation Ground, Bath.

The Warriors academy-produced centre, who was utilised on the wing by his country, ran in four of the 11 tries.

Short said: “One of the key words before the match was precision and we definitely delivered on that.

We all put a lot of hard work in during the week and we took that into the game.

“We were accurate and absolutely nailed it, everything that we’ve been working on in training came off for us.

"Italy should get credit for their part in the match too, Ireland scraped past them in their previous match and they made it hard for us.

“Even in the last few minutes they were smashing the tackles in — they are strong and direct, but we out-played them.

“From a personal point of view, I was over the moon to get four tries. It’s the most I’ve ever scored in a match.

“I normally play centre, but I’m getting a taste for being out on the wing now!”

Wasps centre Elliot Daly also crossed four times with Leicester Tigers fly-half George Ford and Newcastle number eight Alex Gray also touching down. The referee also awarded England a penalty try in the final minute.

Short’s Sixways team-mate Matt Kvesic was also involved, playing the entire match at blindside flanker.

• Meanwhile, England women demolished Italy 68-5 at Esher. Worcester trio Heather Fisher, Kat Merchant and Danielle Waterman all claimed a brace of tries, while there were scores for Maggie Alphonsi, Emily Scarratt, Rowena Burnfield, La Toya Mason and Georgina Roberts.

An injury-time try from Worcester flanker Pippa Crews handed the Nomads a thrilling 22-19 victory over England women ‘A’ at Esher.

The Nomads, the women’s game equivalent of the Barbarians, also featured Worcester’s Gemma Sharples, while Sixways trio Sam Bree, Laura Keates and Ceri Large played for England ‘A’.
