WORCESTER Warriors look to have missed out on the signing of Argentina international Gonzalon Camacho with the player poised to join Aviva Premiership rivals Exeter Chiefs.

Sources at Sixways believed last week they had moved ahead in the race to secure the services of the former Harlequins winger, but he is now believed to have agreed terms with the Sandy Park outfit.

Although Exeter, who are also poised to bring in Bath lock Peter Short, have not confirmed the signing of Camacho, the deal is likely to be rubber-stamped by the Devon club later this week.

Chiefs boss Rob Baxter said: “Within the next week we will hopefully be able to announce our last couple of signings.

“It’s no secret that Nemani Nadolo has gone home and there is an opportunity to bring in a back-three player.

“We think we have highlighted a good guy to come in to do a good job. He’s the right age and demographic for us — he’s a younger guy who could come in for a couple of years.

“We think we have got that guy lined up.”

He added: “We’re still considering another second row. We’re looking to strengthen the front five this year and we think we have done that with the front row with our signings there and Aly Muldowney, but if the right guy is available we’re still in a position to add some more strength in that area.”

Meanwhile, Warriors are set to host a Churchill Cup triple-header on Saturday, June 18, and rugby fans can take advantage by watching three international matches for just £15.

Sixways will host the climax of the tournament when spectators can enjoy a feast of rugby by watching both the bowl final (noon) and the plate final (2.15pm), before the big final gets under way at 4.30pm.

With the Rugby World Cup starting in September, the ninth Churchill Cup provides an ideal pre-tournament team warm-up opportunity and for a number of players to knock on the selector’s door to represent their country in New Zealand.

Warriors winger Miles Benjamin may well have done just that with a stunning hat-trick in the Saxons’ opening 87-8 demolition of USA Eagles, while prop Matt Mullan and second row Graham Kitchener also caught the eye.
