HUNDREDS of children took part in Nunnery Wood Colts’ successful football festival over three days at Battenhall playing fields.

Being held for the seventh year running, the event combined mini soccer games with nine-a-side matches.

Trophies were also presented by Worcester City manager Carl Heeley following the link forged between Colts and the St George’s Lane club to develop players of the future.

Ten under eights teams featured in non-competitive games with Worcester Youth receiving the fair play award.

The u10s seven-a-side tournament was won by Chepstow after they defeated Nunnery Wood Lions on penalties in the final.

Nunnery Wood Falcons u12s claimed the nine-a-side league on goal difference from touring side Essex Academy.

The u13s nine-a-side was won by Swindon Village Bowmen who topped the eight-team group on goal difference from Catshill, with Nunnery Wood Tigers finishing a close third.

Pegasus saw off Southside in the u9s seven-a-side event.

In the mini soccer, both u11s semi-finals were decided on penalties with Nunnery Wood Scorpions and Bewdley Town beating Cleeve Colts and Evesham United Juniors respectively.

Bewdley sealed a 4-3 victory over the Scorpions in the final.

The u14s nine-a-side league was won by Nunnery Wood Panthers who edged out Cheltenham rivals Kings Stanley by a single point.

Colts chairman Mark Wilcox said: “We have received numerous compliments on the tournament from many managers which made it all worthwhile.”
