PAUL Davis, a member at Worcester Golf and Country Club for four years, picked up his first major trophy when he recorded 43 stableford points to win the George Lodge Trophy.

Davis, a 13-handicapper prior to the competition, finished two points clear of Duncan Macpherson, playing off two, who shot a gross 68 to claim the runners-up spot.

In third place was last year’s club captain Julian Gadd, who recorded 39 points off a handicap of 17.

Another member to win their first major trophy was Anne Foord who won the ladies’ section open singles stableford competition.

Playing off 23 and a member for 19 years, Ford beat a strong field, recording 45 points.

In second place, thanks to a better back nine on count-back, was fellow Boughton member Sarah Collins with 39 points. Stourbridge GC’s Anne Hunter and Bobbie Johnston (WG&CC) were second — also with 39 points — with Gail Halford (WG&CC) and Pam Bird (Sapey) third with 37 points. Nearest the pin was won by Cleobury Mortimer’s Marj Hughes.

Richard Jones continued his recent good form when he topped Division One to win the June Thursday medal. Jones (76-10-66) finished one shot ahead of 16-year-old Jack Humphreys (73-6-67).

Paul Matthews and Anthony Ottway both recorded the day’s lowest gross score of 72.

Richard White (80-16-64) topped Division Two, a shot ahead of in-form Stephen McCarthy (79-14-65). John Kendrick (82-13-69) snatched third place on count-back.
