THE hectic season at Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb continues with an even busier month, starting this weekend.

The Reg Phillips Memorial Trophy meeting is on Saturday, incorporating championship rounds of the Toyo Tires Midland Speed, Lotus Seven Club, Westfield Speed Series, Ginetta Club Speed and Aston Martin Owners’ Club.

Multiple Shelsley Walsh fastest time of the day holder Deryk Young, from Yarkhill, will be involved.

But, for once, Young will not be expected to take the best time in his Gould as he will be sharing a classic Lotus 23b from the 1960s with his wife Sue, who holds the Shelsley women’s hill record.

The car, once driven by 1963 and 1965 F1 world champion Jim Clark, is owned by Terry Grainger, a Shelsley Walsh stalwart.

Grainger, of Bromsgrove, said: “Deryk has put a lot of work into preparing my car which I am now too infirm to race myself. He and Sue are determined to have a great weekend.”

Sunday sees the annual MAC Vintage meeting in association with the Vintage Sports Car Club which is a big draw for lovers of classics.

It features cars that have been competing at Shelsley since they were first built between the two world wars.

The most celebrated Shelsley car, the ex-Raymond Mays ERA R4D, will be driven by owner Mac Hulbert and is expected to head the vintage vehicles.

Action on both days starts at 9.30am and admission, including parking, transfer to paddock and seated trackside enclosures, is £15 on Saturday and £18 on Sunday.

Accompanied children aged under 16 go free.
