FINALLY we can say goodbye to the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition for another year.

Worcestershire have performed so poorly this season in the 40-over format they will be glad when today’s trip to Yorkshire Carnegie is over.

The County haven’t won at New Road in this tournament and they are guaranteed to finish bottom of Group ‘A’ win, lose or draw.

Worcestershire, for some reason, just haven’t been able to get three disciplines of their game going.

But while they have been disappointing to say the least in CB40 they look they have other things on their mind.

Who can blame them, this season was all about trying to season in LV= County Championship Division One. Nothing else has mattered.

Yes they came close to a quarter-final spot in the Friends Life t20, but they shot themselves in the foot when they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against Nottinghamshire Outlaws.

If Steve Rhodes’ side can do the impossible and beat the drop in the championship then all will be forgotten about the miserable 40-over campaign.

n Just what would have happened at the Rose Bowl had the covers at an international Test match venue not leaked on to the wicket on the final day against Worcestershire?

The County were in a winning position and then they were left just 26 overs to try and wrap up the game.

The Worcestershire director of cricket said it was just one of those things. But underneath I bet that he was not a happy man.

After all, a fourth win of the season would’ve gone a long way in their survival bid.
