WORCESTER City manager Carl Heeley says he could not have asked for more from his players after watching them secure a dramatic draw with Nuneaton Town.

Trailing to a 12th-minute Lee Moore strike, City piled on the pressure in the second-half before substitute Michael Taylor fired home in injury-time.

It stretched the St George’s Lane club’s unbeaten run to five matches and kept them in the Blue Square Bet North play-off places following the first month of the campaign.

“Nuneaton are a very good side and were beaten in the play-off semi-finals last season so they will be up there challenging again,” Heeley said.

“But we have aspirations ourselves and all I can ask of the lads is to compete and be positive in every game.

“We kept persevering. Even when we were level you could see the players wanted to go and nick the game.

“I could not have asked any more from them. I’m really proud of what they’ve given me — that spirit and commitment will hopefully stand us in good stead.”

City were below-par in the first-half but, as in previous games, refused to give in.

Heeley added: “I asked the midfield three, Kevin O’Connor, Emeka Nwadike and Tom Thorley, to go and win the second-half because they were decidedly second best in the first period. It would have been an injustice if we hadn’t got ourselves at least level.”

Taylor, who netted 41 goals for Earlswood Town in Midland Combination Division One last season, was delighted to score his first competitive goal for City.

He said: “It was a nice feeling to get off the mark, especially at home. The lads have given me a lot of confidence and support.”

The striker, 21, is also happy to be used as a substitute as he bids to make a name for himself at the Lane.

“At this level, it’s what’s best for my development right now,” Taylor added.

“The guys in the team have got a lot more experience so it’s just about learning.”
