WORCESTER City feel they are long overdue a win against Corby Town when the sides lock horns at St George’s Lane tomorrow (3pm).

City failed to win any of their three meetings against the Steelmen last season — two in Blue Square Bet North and one in the FA Cup.

They were beaten 2-0 at the Lane in January and undone by last-minute goals in the other two fixtures.

Having seen Marc McGregor convert an injury-time penalty to equalise in the FA Cup third qualifying round last October, Corby sent Carl Heeley’s team crashing out with an even later winner.

At the Rockingham Triangle in March, City, heading for victory at 1-0, were forced to settle for a point as the hosts struck two minutes into stoppage-time.

Heeley feels his team, who have profited from late goals of their own in recent matches, are owed a slice of luck against the Northamptonshire outfit. He said: “We didn’t beat Corby last season and they defended extremely well when they came to us and nicked a win.

“We are looking to roll them over, it’s about time, but they have got probably the strongest forward in the league in Matt Rhead.

“He’s a handful and they have two good wide players as well so we will have to be mindful of that.

“But I think we have got enough ammunition and we are the home team so the onus is on us to get a result and keep our unbeaten run going.”

Michael Taylor’s late leveller against Nuneaton Town on Monday stretched the sequence to five games and kept City in the play-off spots, ensuring they have scored in every game this season.

Mike Symons has scored four times and could once again be paired with Danny Carey-Bertram before the former Telford striker starts a three-game ban.

Heeley hopes fellow forward Luke Corbett will be in contention after missing the Nuneaton draw with an ankle injury sustained just before scoring the winner at Eastwood last Saturday.

Utility player Neil Cartwright is expected to be fit after jarring his knee last weekend and midfielder Matt Birley, a late substitute against Nuneaton, continues to make progress following a groin problem.

But striker McGregor and winger Danny Edwards (both hamstring) remain doubts, while attacking midfielder Simon Brown has not recovered from a thigh injury.

Corby, with Rhead scoring four goals, have had an erratic campaign to date, beating Bishop’s Stortford 6-1 and Eastwood 5-0 but losing to league leaders Hyde 4-0.
