WYRE Forest District Council’s Lucy Savage is the Football Association coach of the year for Worcestershire.

She was handed the FA McDonald’s community award for her commitment to improving standards and increasing participation in the sport.

Savage has been working for the council for just over two years and runs football sessions for children of all abilities in district schools during term time.

She has also just completed a summer programme of sporting sessions for children during the holidays.

Savage said: “I’m delighted to pick up the award. I really enjoy my work and I’m especially keen to develop girls’ and women’s football in the region.

“What I’m ultimately aiming for is help youngsters build on their skills so they continue with the game and join a local club.”
