THE medals continued to stack up for Great Britain on the final day of competition at the World Rowing Championships in Slovenia.
Olympic champions Zac Purchase, a former King’s School Worcester pupil, and Mark Hunter successfully defended their lightweight men’s double scull.
The men’s four of former Evesham rower Alex Gregory, Ric Egington, Tom James and Matt Langridge also won gold.
There was a bronze for Hester Goodsell and Sophie Hosking in the lightweight women’s double scull and a gold for the Paralympic-class mixed adaptive coxed four.
That brought the overall GB medal tally to 14, good enough to top the table.
The competition was fierce as Purchase and Hunter took gold in the lightweight double scull.
Britain made the brighter start but the New Zealand team were ahead at 1,000 metres.
The crews swapped the lead repeatedly but, at the island, it looked as if the British pair had the upper hand.
By the final five strokes it was clear the champions would not be toppled as they won in six minutes 18.67 seconds, ahead of the Kiwis and the Italians in third.
“After our race with the Kiwis in the quarters we knew it would be a tough contest,” said Purchase, 25.
