OLD Vigornians' Crusader Worcestershire Cricket League season ended disappointingly with a double defeat against Colwall.

The first XI bowling was put to the sword by Colwall, who still had an outside chance of promotion and were in search of maximum points. The Herefordshire side declared after 42 overs on 288-4. Panniers made an impressive 108 and Wolfendale scored 88.

The Worcester club were quickly in trouble when Tom Weston fell early on. Colwall bowled orthodox left and right-arm spinners, Griffiths and King, virtually throughout, and they picked up five and four wickets respectively.

Nic Sproson top scored with a patient 35 but the New Road club collapsed frrom 81-3 to 89-9, before Liam Fahy and Will Smith had a last-wicket slog and took the final total to 116 all out.

Unfortunately for Colwall the win was not enough for guaranteed promotion, as both Wormelow and Monmouth also won and pipped them to the top two places.

Colwall's second XI made sure of their title with a maximum points win on the adjacent pitch against OV II. They batted first and declared after 41 overs with 214-7.

Bamford made 68 and Fisher 50. The Old Vigornians were left to rue vital dropped catches at important stages of the Colwall innings. Four went down, all of them off Stu Bailey, three of them spilled by Dave Mendham.

Charlie Annable, Phil Thomas and Ian Bell all bowled well, but the pick of the attack was debutant Will Kerton. His first over cost 11 runs, but his next five cost 20 and he picked up three wickets, turning the ball between bat and pad to remove both Bamford and Fisher.

OVs were 0-3 after Charlie Wheeler's first over. The rapid right-armer was returning to cricket after a long lay-off for a back injury and always looked threatening, until for-ced out of the attack by fading light. He finished with 5-27.

Tim Whitehouse made a good looking 14 before falling to Wheeler, but it was Dave Mendham, Phil Thomas and Phil Mackie who nearly turned the tables on Colwall. Mendham made 46, Thomas 28 and Mackie 45.

They were well supported by David Owen and Kerton, but the run chase ended with 10 overs to go with the OVs 51 short.
