WORCESTERSHIRE have captured promising batsman Moeen Ali on a three-year contract from Warwickshire.

Ali, the cousin of County and England paceman Kabir, turned down a two-year offer from Midlands rivals Warwickshire.

The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in England but has been given limited chances at Edgbaston.

Chief executive Mark Newton said: "We have established a very good relationship with the Ali family over the years.

"Moeen's brother, Kadeer, was a player with us and his cousin, Kabir, is one of our senior players. We have a small professional squad so the addition of Moeen is a key part of our planning for the future."

Director of Cricket Steven Rhodes said: "Moeen is one of the outstanding young players in English Cricket at present.

"We believe that several counties have shown an interest in him but we are delighted he has chosen Worcestershire to pursue his cricketing career and I am sure he will be challenging for a starting spot from the start of next season."
