STRIKER Lee Smith is looking to continue his goal-scoring form with Worcester City after joining from rivals Nuneaton Town.

The 28-year-old, who can also operate on the right wing, has signed a contract until the end of the season with an option for an additional 12 months after City made a seven-day approach for his services.

Smith was leading scorer at Liberty Way with three goals in Blue Square Bet North this campaign following his summer switch from Forest Green Rovers, but was unable to agree terms on a contract.

The Gloucester-based player, who also netted 76 goals in 308 appearances during three spells with his hometown club, was offered that stability at City, as well as being closer to his young family.

He said: “I have scored goals at this level consistently.

“Worcester have given me the chance to come in and hopefully I will carry on scoring goals. I am really looking forward to getting my head down and hopefully scoring the goals we need to get in the play-offs.”

His arrival leaves City with an array of striking options as Smith battles it out with seven-goal leading marksman Mike Symons, Danny Carey-Bertram, Luke Corbett and Marc McGregor. Fellow forward Michael Taylor is on loan at Stourport Swifts.

Manager Carl Heeley feels Smith will be a major addition and has released right-back Jared Wilson and winger Sebastian Lake-Gaskin to balance the books.

“I have known about Lee for quite a few years and he’s a very good player who will improve us,” the Worcester boss added.

“When a player of his pedigree becomes available you have to try and fit him in. I think it’s a big signing for us.”
