A FABULOUS performance from Samurai’s top pair of Frankie Marston and Brendan Crummy saw them take gold at the British Kata Championships in the Lake District.

Not only did the dynamic duo from the Kidderminster club win the gold in Kendal but they also out-scored all of the senior pairs in a sizzling performance of the display side of judo.

The players were judged on their technical performance over a pre-planned show.

The nage-no-kata, which the pair took the gold in, focuses on throws.

Samurai have a long history of taking medals at the British championships but Marston, 14, and Crummy, 15, are the first local pair to win gold at the event for a while.

The duo had already won at the Midlands Open Kata Championships in July.

They are also accomplished contest judo players.

Marston took bronze at the Heart Of England Championships and Crummy claimed silver at the Kent International.

They both won medals in the Bruges International Open in Belgium and the British Schools Championships.

They now prepare for the British Junior National Championships next month in Sheffield.
