WORCESTERSHIRE'S Simon Andrews competed in round twelve of the Bennett's British Superbike Championship at Silverstone but failed to finish in both races.

The weekend started with free practice and Andrews continued to improve his lap times. However, practice lasted for only five laps due to the Evesham racer hitting a slower rider when manoeuvring for an overtaking move which dumped him on to the track.

Battered and sore for the afternoon's solitary qualifying session, Andrews was out on his qualifying tyres and was up three quarters of a second on his split times which would have placed him in the top ten. But he was behind Glen Richards who parted company with his Hydrex Honda and with Ryuichi Kiyonari crashing at Maggots it slowed Andrew's flying lap.

In race one he was running in thirteenth place when arm pump', locked both his arms. Arm pump' is created by the immense forces of repeatedly hard braking and without the use of both hands Simon pulled into the pits.

His Jentin Racing team discussed the fact that a reoccurrence of the condition would almost certainly affect Andrews in the second race.

Unfortunately they were correct. Following a superb start and lying in tenth position, Andrews returned to the pits with both arms locked with arm pump'.

Bernard Toleman Jentin Racing's team manager said: "We are all pleased with the way the new team format is developing and also very impressed with Simon.

"What should be remembered is that we are using the remainder of this season to prepare for 2007 and therefore not developing the existing equipment.

"There are several meetings arranged with potential new sponsors over the next few weeks and we have arranged test rides for our Piranha R6."
