KIDDERMINSTER Harriers secured three home points at the fifth time of asking this season with a fine 2-0 victory against Southport tonight.

Andy White and Gavin Hurren were on target in the second-half as Mark Yates' side finally tasted victory at Aggborough.

Despite the lowest gate of the season, 1,258, Harriers produced a confident performance that belied their lowly Conference position.

The hosts, no doubt under no illusions as to their manager's expectations after Saturday's defeat at York, played like a team possessed at times.

Harriers, without Jeff Kenna and Jamie McClen, were worthy winners and created numerous opportunities, particularly after the break, with free-flowing football.

White put them ahead on 49 minutes as his rising header at the far post proved too hot for 'keeper Ryan Robinson from Iyseden Christie's cross.

Hurren put the game out of Southport's reach as he blasted a right-foot drive past Robinson into the top corner from 25 yards with 16 minutes left.

It was no less than Harriers deserved and they might have had more had Christie not fluffed a shot on the turn from eight yards just past the hour.

Shots also rained in from distance on Robinson's goal with the excellent Russell Penn going closest by forcing a good stop out of the visiting 'keeper from 30 yards in the first-half.

Southport had their chances, the best being Mark Jackson's shot blocked by Scott Bevan on 29 minutes, but they were gradually worn down by a dominant Harriers.

The visitors also had Kevin Lee stretchered off with an injury after 27 minutes.

Harriers: Bevan; Hurren, Creighton, Whitehead, Harkness; Russell (Smikle 84), Sedgemore, Penn, McGrath (Blackwood 77); White (Eaton 90), Christie. Subs not used: Taylor, Reynolds.
