EVESHAM United put their indifferent league form behind them to cause an FA Cup upset with a 3-0 triumph at Blue Square Bet North side Eastwood Town.

Two goals by in-form striker Marcus Palmer ensured the Robins a deserved place in tomorrow’s third qualifying round draw.

United went into the game as underdogs but outplayed their higher-graded opponents thanks to Palmer, who has netted five FA Cup goals in two games.

Eastwood, who held league leaders Hyde to a draw the previous week, started brightly without causing too many alarms for the Evesham defence.

Only a Jason Bradley header tested Nathan Vaughan in the United goal.

But two goals in four minutes before half-time saw the game swing in Evesham’s favour.

Skipper Wayne Daniel got on the end of Josh Quaynor’s free-kick to powerfully head Paul West’s side in front, then Palmer danced through the home defence before planting a low shot past Badgers’ stopper James Severn.

Evesham were content to sit on their lead in the second-half but still had opportunities to increase their advantage.

Jamie Hyde stabbed wide at the back post, Lewis Pountney headed over and Craig Wilding rattled an upright.

Evesham, however, confirmed their place in the next round six minutes from time when Palmer escaped the clutches of full-back Steve Istead before slotting home.

Evesham: Vaughan, Blake, Hyde, Daniel, Jones, Walker, Fitter, Wilding, Palmer, Pountney, Quaynor. Subs not used: O’Kelly, Connor, Woodley, Hands, Adey.
