WARRIORS head coach Richard Hill was in no doubt how he viewed his team’s victory over Northampton Saints.

While the game lacked a cutting edge and quality, the Sixways chief was delighted with how his players hung on for the 12-3 victory having lost to Harlequins the previous weekend after being 15-3 up.

“That was better and I’m happier,” he said. “We had the same sort of effort and physicality, but the difference was that we were much more precise.

“We have got to learn to finish off these chances, because you don’t get too many in the Premiership.”

Warriors also kept the ball a lot better against the Saints, went through their phases a lot more, but still the Sixways side are struggling to find their way over the whitewash.

“What we did do is keep the ball better,” Hill said. “We want the attack to get better and it won’t unless we go through phases.

“I am not saying it is perfect yet, but at least we kept it and we will have more confidence from now on.

“It doesn’t worry me that we haven’t scored a try — I will take a 12-3 win every time and you can see that we are creating chances.

“We had a great opening when Errie Claassens made a break in the first-half and a little off-load didn’t quite go to hand and Chris Jones, who I thought played very well at number eight, made a break and just couldn’t get the ball out wide.

“Those are the little things we need to get right, plus the driving line-out five metres out. They were three golden opportunities to score, but at least we are creating them.

“If we looked blunt I would be concerned, but there is strike power and we have just got to finish them.”

Hill was also pleased with how scrum-half Shaun Perry played and the former England number nine put in a man-of-the-match performance despite going down with a knee problem in the first-half.

“Shaun is a Warrior in the true sense of the word,” said Hill. “He has been battered and bruised and we are keeping him going with Jonny Arr not fit. He is a tough customer and excellent for the pack of forwards.”
