MANAGER Carl Heeley admits the volley of abuse he received from fans at last Saturday’s FA Cup tie made him consider his Worcester City future.

Heeley, who made 526 appearances for the St George’s Lane club, was subjected to a torrent of insults by a small group of Worcester supporters during the 2-1 second qualifying round loss.

That continued after the match, with fans also claiming they were abused in return, and, although he has the full backing of the club’s directors, led the boss to ponder his position. However, having had time to think it through, Heeley, nicknamed King Carl, has vowed not to be beaten and said the loyalty of the majority of fans makes the job worthwhile.

He said: “I have given everything for the club, I have been here for 16 years as a player, coach and manager.

“I love the game and WCFC and spend many hours, as well as my full-time job, trying to improve things.

“When people shout those sort of things, I question whether I need it, but they won’t beat me, no chance.”
