STOURPORT played their part in a fast and open game against Bromsgrove seconds but eventually lost 27-10.

Playing a team several divisions above them, they only capitulated in the last 20 minutes when the home team's superior fitness told.

There was a vast improvement in Stourport's scrummaging with the front row of Farmer, Gough and Bourne gaining the upper hand on their opponents and, in open play, the two young flank forwards, Rob Phillips and Jack Connolly, appeared to be everywhere.

It was end-to-end stuff in the first-half, with both Phillips and Alan Banks coming very close to crossing their opponents' line only to be foiled by some desperate, last-ditch tackling.

Stourport took the lead after 30 minutes when outside-half Stu Wilson converted a penalty following a Bromsgrove transgression at a ruck.

Bromsgrove took the lead with the last play of the first- half. Following several quick rucks and one missed tackle, their full-back was able to touch down. The conversion was missed.

The third quarter followed the pattern of the first-half with both sides coming close to scoring.

The high tempo of the game gradually began to tell on the Stourport team and Broms-grove scored three quick tries to race into a 17-point lead.

Although tiring, the Stour-port team were still competitive and deservedly scored a try.

Connolly chased a kick ahead, gathered the ball and crashed through a couple of tackles before releasing Phillips, who outpaced the home defence to score an unconverted try.

Bromsgrove completed the scoring with a converted try just prior to the final whistle.

Stourport's seconds registered their first win of the season against Ledbury's third team with a 12-8 triumph.

Tries were scored by Patrick and Horton with a conversion kicked by Steve Griffin.

Stourport return to action with a trip to Five Ways Old Edwardians in a league match on Saturday.
