DROITWICH claimed a 29-14 victory over neighbours Worcester Wanderers to maintain their unbeaten start to the Midlands Four West (South) season at Sixways.

The visitors pressed the home line from the start and a good drive from Phil Horton's line-out take saw the ball fed to veteran Duncan Hughes, who cleverly cut inside and used his bulk to force his way over for a try. Hughes added the conversion.

A good run by Jamie Faulkener saw Droitwich return to the Worcester half and, from the resulting scrum, number eight Jimmy Richardson picked up to power 30 metres and score a fine individual try.

The second period saw both sides try and play attacking rugby, although the penalty count was high as both teams made a string of errors.

It was from a turnover that Matt Jupp fed Faulkener to sprint 60 metres and score.

Worcester hit back with two penalties through Rob Craw-ford, before good pressure by Droitwich saw Hughes throw a clever dummy before feeding full-back Ross Coombes to run in unopposed under the posts.

With time rapidly running out Worcester threw everything they could at the visitors and were rewarded with an unconverted try from number eight Max Drew.

Droitwich captain Dean Goddard said: "This was a satisfying display, I thought our forwards were superb."
