LEE Hendrie still has what it takes to make an impact for Kidderminster Harriers, according to assistant manager Gary Whild.

The 34-year-old former Aston Villa and one-cap England midfielder has agreed non-contract terms at Aggborough in a bid to reignite his career.

Hendrie arrives at the Blue Square Bet Premier club having played five games for Evo-Stik Southern League Division One Central outfit Daventry, which came following a brief spell in Indonesia.

However, Whild feels the player who spent 12 years at Villa Park, has plenty to offer Harriers, who are without a game today after being knocked out of the FA Cup at Corby Town in a fourth qualifying round replay.

“Lee is still keen to do very well and believes he can play at a higher level,” Steve Burr’s deputy said.

“When opportunities to sign players like Lee come along you have to act.

“He’s got a wealth of experience at the highest level and is still very fit.

“He’s played a number of games for Daventry and the more he plays the fitter he will get.

“With a very young squad, having his experience and quality coming into the side is welcome. He wants to turn up, train and be the best and I am sure that will bring a lot to us.”

Hendrie, also a former England under 21 international, joined Stoke on loan after leaving Villa and went on to turn out for a host of clubs including Leicester, Blackpool, Sheffield United, Brighton and Bradford.
