HEREFORD United and Yeovil Town are two of the greatest FA Cup giantkillers of all time.

During their non-league days, they accounted for some of the biggest names in the game, such as the Bulls’ victory over Newcastle United in 1972 and Yeovil’s defeat of Sunderland in 1949, as well as a string of Football League clubs.

Now, firmly established in the professional ranks themselves — Hereford 19th in League Two and Yeovil bottom of League One — they lock horns in the first round proper at Edgar Street tomorrow (3pm).

Bulls manager Jamie Pitman has played for both teams, including as a Yeovil team-mate with Glovers boss Terry Skiverton 12 years ago, but insists that will mean nothing come kick-off.

“It’s a local derby and a few players from this club have gone to Yeovil. It adds a bit of spice but it’s a football match and we both want to win,” Pitman said. “Whether it’s a match against my two boys or anybody, I want to win it.

“It’s going to be a good encounter between two clubs with a great FA Cup tradition. It’s a tradition that both clubs want to continue with.

“We both want to get a result so we can get another big club in the next round to boost funds.

“I played with Terry and he works very hard and I am sure his team will work hard. We are winners so we have a hunger to want to do well.”
