Two second half goals saw

Harriers

begin 2020 in losing fashion as they went down to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Hereford.

Harriers interim boss opted to make one change from the defeat to Brackley in the previous game; young striker Ethan Freemantle dropped to the bench in favour of a return for fellow frontman, Richard Peniket.

After a fairly tense and close opening quarter-hour, a Moyo header over the bar on 15 minutes was the first sight of goal of the day, before a Hemmings twist and turn saw him drive at goal, forcing shot-stopper Powell into a parry.

Come the half-hour, with chances at a premium, Peniket spurned a good one when he glanced down and wide from a Johnson cross, with only a key goal-line clearance nine minutes later denied Moyo as he met a Prosser corner with a deft header.

Harriers were slower to start the second half, and conceded a penalty inside five minutes of the restart when Johnson went to ground in the area, Sodiende blasting the spot-kick beyond Will Mannion.

There might have been an instant response when Peniket nodded over up at the other end, but Harriers were in truth fortunate to not concede a second on 68 minutes – Davidson falling over the ball and allowing a cross to come in that Sodiende fired over.

Sub Ed Wiilams got good room inside the area and fired a low shot wide of the near post as Harriers tried to press, but Sodiende continued to threaten for the Bulls, drilling one effort wide and one into the side netting. It would be 2-0 to the home side with just ten to go, though, as a tight cross was turned past Mannion by Moyo.

Harriers did manage to get on the score sheet late on through Hemmings after his free kick whizzed past everyone on its way in, but the grandstand finish never truly threatened to materialize.

Harriers are back in action in just a matter of days with the visit of Blyth Spartans to Aggborough on Saturday, 3pm kick off. The club have reduced admission to the game to £10 adults and £5 concessions, while U16s are free.
