Getafe missed their chance to move into the top four in LaLiga ahead of the weekend action as they blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at mid-table Eibar.
Victory for the visitors would have moved them ahead of Sevilla, who are due to travel to Villarreal on Sunday.
And everything seemed to be going to plan when Jaime Mata struck his ninth goal of the season to put his side in front eight minutes before half time.
When Dimitri Foulquier doubled Getafe’s lead with a superb strike from the edge of the box 10 minutes into the second half, it seemed Eibar were heading for defeat.
But the hosts had other ideas and Brazilian Charles narrowed the deficit from the penalty spot just past the hour mark.
The Brazilian striker seized another chance 10 minutes from time when he hooked a fine volley past Getafe goalkeeper David Soria to complete his side’s comeback and claim a point.
