WORCESTER City will fly into their derby double with Bromsgrove Sporting after a comfortable 4-0 win at lowly Haughmond today.

City, who host landlords Sporting on Boxing Day before the return fixture on New Year's Day (both 3pm), boosted their promotion hopes with goals from Josh Sarmento, Brad Birch, Dave Reynolds and James Baldwin.

They remain fourth in the Total Motion Midland League Premier Division but closed the gap to Sporting Khalsa, who lost 2-1 at Boldmere St Michaels, in third to five points with three games in hand.

City led in the seventh minute when Sarmento scored following Mark Danks' corner.

Danks' 20-yard shot was then deflected by Birch over the keeper and into the net for the second goal on 16 minutes.

The visitors pinned the third-from-bottom Shrewsbury side back and could have added more goals by half-time.

City extended their lead on 63 minutes when Reynolds headed home Danks' corner.

Baldwin completed the scoring on 74 minutes with a sliced finish from substitute Lee Hughes' assist.

City brought on young midfielder Callum Harper for his first-team debut and returning Worcester keeper Nathan Vaughan was forced into rare action with a fine save.

Their 11th league win of the season takes City into the first derby with Sporting who are seven points ahead having played a game more after their 3-1 home win over Shawbury United.

Sam Wills, Jason Cowley and Richard Gregory scored for Bromsgrove against the basement boys.

City: Vaughan, Weir, J Smith, Stoddart, M Smith, Hayward, Sarmento (Harper 76), Birch (Birley 70), Danks, Reynolds (Hughes 73), Baldwin. Subs not used: Gwynne, Forsyth.
