WORCESTER Warriors came agonisingly close to making the final of Thursday’s Rosslyn Park Floodlit Sevens tournament.
After sweeping aside Loughborough University (29-14) and sevens-specialist SKRUM Smugglers (29-0) in their pool, Warriors contested an entertaining semi-final with Rosslyn Park.
After going 21 points behind, Warriors fought back valiantly to make it 21-19 before Tiff Eden’s late conversion came back off the upright.
And the hosts recovered the ball from the restart to boot it out, sending them into the finals.
Specialist Sevens side Rambling Jesters, who defeated last year’s champions Harlequins in the semi-final, went on to win the tournament.
Academy manager Mark Hewitt said: “It was a great effort from the boys and we came very close to making the final.
“We had a good mix of senior and Academy players in the side and it was nice to see players like Andy Short and Max Stelling looking sharp.
“We were really pleased with Tom Dodd, who’s played for our Under 18s this season. He did a fantastic job playing alongside more senior players.”
