The public are being invited to attend a special service of 'Peace and Penitence' at Worcester Cathedral at 11am on August 9 to mark the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.

The service is part of the Worcestershire World War One Hundred programme, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

It involoves cultural and heritage organisations from across the county four the next four years, and is one of the largest programme of events in England commemorating the war.

There will be a civic procession from the Guildhall beforehand.

Anyone planning to attend is asked to take their seat by 10.40am.

Dignitaries attending include the Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire, the Dean of the Cathedral, and the Mayor of Worcester.
