A HILARIOUS rap video celebrating Droitwich is on its way to becoming a viral hit.

And the man behind the project, former CBeebies presenter Joe Chambers, says it's just the start as he is deciding which Worcestershire town will be the subject of his next music video.

The 32-year-old said since posting 'This Is Droitwich' to his YouTube page, The Ridiculous Rhyme Show, and versions being shared on Facebook, in just a few days it has received more than 20,000 views.

"It has been overwhelming, I have been really surprised," Joe said.

"I thought Droitwich needs something like this. I've lived outside the town for over 10 years now and people are always saying 'Droitwich where's that?'.

"Obviously Worcester has the sauce, Birmingham has the Peaky Blinders and Droitwich has just never quite seemed to have made it onto the map.

"We've got the history - why not shout about it."

The former Droitwich Spa High School pupil said the perfect opportunity arrived when he was asked to play John Corbett and a Roman soldier for the town's Droitwich Augmented Reality Trail (DART) app that recently launched.

"The app inspired it - I thought if we could get these costumes for a few days I can make an accompanying song that could take off," he said.

"The pandemic hit, but when we had the go ahead for the app I thought this was the time to be creative."

Joe said he then got in touch with Worcester friend Oscar Bell, who produces music.

"We obviously didn't have a budget, I asked him and he said he was up for it," he said.

"We got together and smashed the track out over an afternoon, with me writing the lyrics and Oscar the music."

Among the genius lyrics in the song are:

"This is Droitwich, famous for its supply of Brine,

"It's a great little town, do come on down, we'll have a splendid time."

Many of the comments on the YouTube post have been praising the song, though a number of people are making a key mistake.

"I play both characters but local residents all seem to think the video features two different people, which is hilarious," Joe said.

Joe, who presented The Rhyme Rocket on CBeebies, enlisted the help of friend Gavin Stewart to help him shoot the video at locations around the town and even got his Droitwich-based parents, Judith and Paul Chambers, to help with mum cleaning the Droitwich Spa sign to look its best for the video.

"With the Droitwich video doing so well, it would be great to do other local towns, like Pershore, Evesham, even Worcester," he added.

"Anyone interested in the concept get in touch."
