Residents are being encouraged to join the family-friendly 'Love the Arbo' bike ride on Sunday (January 28).

The event, organised by Arboretum Residents Association in collaboration with Bike Worcester, aims to promote the forthcoming Arboretum Light Festival.

Participants will meet at 4pm at the Baptist Church on Sansome Walk to adorn their bikes with vibrant lights before embarking on the brightly-lit route at around 4:30pm.

Bike Worcester, who are supporting the event, welcome all ages, skills, and forms of bikes or scooters, including seated or trailer-riding children and balance and stabilised bikes.

Danny Brothwell, chair of Bike Worcester said: "We are excited to support this special bike ride, as we love helping people to come together and have fun cycling around our city.

"‘Love the Arbo’ Bike Ride first started in 2022, and with the Arboretum Residents Association, we typically welcome around 30 adults and children on bicycles.

"Participants decorate their bikes with lights, ring their bells a lot and enjoy cycling along in a group to music.

"There is a great atmosphere and support from local residents."

The Arboretum Light Festival, scheduled for Saturday, February 10 until Monday 12, is an annual community-led event, that sees residents display their creative art in brightly lit windows throughout the neighbourhood.

Councillor Matthew Jenkins said: "Our brightly lit bike ride is helping to publicise the annual Love the Arbo community led, community created, light festival in the Arboretum area of Worcester.

"The aim is to light up as many Arboretum residents' windows as possible with their artwork, on the 2024 theme of ‘Wild About Windows’, thinking about all things nature.

"Everyone is welcome to explore the streets and delight in their creations, which brings joy to our lives in the winter months and celebrates the strong Arboretum community."

Ahead of the event residents can go to a free art session on Monday, January 29 at the Baptist Church Hall on Sansome Walk from 6pm.

Arboretum Residents Association thanked Severn Arts, Sanctuary Housing, Councillors Matthew Jenkins and Karen Lewing for their support.
