SIR – It is with some regret that I learned of the death of Fred Charles from your newspaper dated June 1.

He was my foreman and he looked after me and helped me when my mother was ill, I was only a teenager then.

He got to find out that I was dashing home to look after my mother, then dashing back to work, so that I would not be late clocking on.

He even made me go down to the canteen for food and paid for it because I hadn’t the time to eat.

Yes, I’m glad I knew him, he was a good man.
