SIR - One of George Cowley's recent letters stated his Labour government have done some good things for this country.

I agree with much of what he said - apart from pensions. As a pensioner myself I have become poorer each year they have been in power. In fact, to be a pensioner in Britain is to be poor. On the continent, pensioners get 90 per cent of their best-year salary, which is index linked.

Even the £3-a-week inflation rise won't help pensioners much with the increase in gas and electricity and council tax.
