SIR - I write on behalf of the Upton in Bloom Committee and in order to set the record straight.

In your article headlined Town set to improve on floral show' you stated that Malvern was the first entry in the competition's history to win a gold award at its first attempt.

Upton-upon-Severn entered the Heart of England in Bloom competition for the first time four years ago and has won gold on every occasion - including its first attempt. It has now been put forward to the prestigious Britain in Bloom national competition as the Heart of England's representative in the Large Village category - which we are informed is a first for Worcestershire.

All too often, the smaller communities' achievements and efforts, which have to be done on shoestring budgets, are overshadowed by the news stories generated by the larger towns.

Please do not allow Upton's outstanding success to go unrecognised and unsung.

DIANE BELLAMY, Secretary.
