SIR - Councillor Bob Peachey says ban all drinking in the city centre. That's a bit rich bearing in mind his local New Labour party were ecstatic when 24-hour drinking was announced, with public statements from his fellow New Labour councilors saying Worcester could become the nightclub centre of the Midlands. Everyone apart from New Labour politicians could see the relationship between 24-hour licensing and excessive drinking.
To ban all drinking outside in public places in an attempt to address the problem of the bottle-in-the brown-paper-bag drinkers, who get their booze from the off-licences and supermarkets, and not from responsibly-run pubs, is surely unworkable and grossly unfair to those who choose to sit outside the pubs on a warm summer's evening.
