SIR – John Shearon’s letter about women bishops (Worcester News, December 4) mentions “discrimination”.

The whole thing is absurd.

Men and women – equal in rights and duties – have got different spiritual tasks.

They are two different entities working together. It is a question of logic: gender difference is a component of humanity itself. The Bible and the Christian doctrine in general call that fact “a creatorial order” – an absolute that must be accepted and respected unless we want to subvert everything.

If there are any problems in distinctions and shortcomings, the fault lies with the males who do not shoulder and fulfil their responsibilites.

Christians must take on board their devotional duties and fulfil them according to divinely appointed standards – the application of temporal concepts taken from jurisprudence and legal codes has nothing to do with living a faith.

Any talk of “discrimination” has absolutely nothing to do with spiritual life.

Political correctness is certainly responsible for the ubiquitous sophistry that banes our life – it is okay to attack the Church of England but I would like to see what happens when Rome or Islam are taken on: that would be interesting, very interesting.
