SIR – I agree with the councillors that the appointment by police and crime commissioner Bill Longmore of his chum certainly smacks of cronyism (Worcester News, December 6).
Mr Longmore’s election shows that the system itself is flawed.
He received just over half of the 14 per cent turnout.
That is to say that roughly seven per cent of the electorate voted for him; 93 per cent did not.
This does not in any sense represent a mandate to accept or spend the taxpayers’ money as he thinks fit.
I would like the Returning Officer to reveal how many spoiled ballots, like mine, were recorded, as these are not counted in the turnout figures.
I have a feeling they could well represent more than Mr Longmore’s paltry seven per cent.
