SIR – Worcester City Council is going to try and get private companies to deliver their services – ie, privatisation (Worcester News, November 30).
Is it just me or am I missing something here?
Are there any examples of privatisation of public services being better for the consumer and taxpayer?
The railways are a complete and utter fiasco with companies raising fares, lowering standards and treating customers like cattle.
Energy companies – gas and electric – are all over the place. There is no investment, just massive price rises all the time.
Old people’s homes used to be run by local authorities and we’ve see what can happen with care provided at private homes.
Water companies’ prices are going up and there is a complete lack of investment.
All these organisations are frequently bailed out by government money to the tune of millions.
The Post Office is the next fiasco waiting to happen – with everyone involved hoping to make a quick buck.
Our local hospital was built with private finance with interests rates that make payday loans look like kindly uncles.
We have accountable politicians overseeing services in our councils but no accountability after privatisation.
Look at the racecourse, no accountability there. None of the original promises were kept... I see no hotel, just poor facilities.
