SIR – Re the letter by Richard Farrell-Adams ‘He’s failing us before the has even started’ (Worcester News, December 10).

I do wish that he would check his facts. I was a member of the old police authority and I can definitely say that it was not unaccountable.

The names of all members were published every year with the council tax demand.

Police community consultative groups were held frequently in all three counties, and were always attended by a senior police officer for that area.

The meetings were widely advertised. The trouble was that despite all the arrangements being made, the public very rarely attended.

They had every opportunity to express any worries for their particular area.

We were not all unelected.

The counciillors were elected and the independent members had to go through a vigorous interview.

All force areas had representation on the authority, unlike Mr [Bill] Longmore.

I can assure Mr Farrell- Adams that there was no faceless cronyism.
