SIR – John Phillpott (Worcester News, February 2) says he has been dragged unwillingly onto vegans’ moral high ground – which I can’t recall we have ever claimed.

However, by implication he must feel himself to be on the moral low ground.

With respect, I would suggest that is his problem, not ours.

We can’t force anyone to change. We can only supply information about the way animals are treated on their way to our plates; the impact of animal farming on the environment, starvation and malnutrition in the developing world, and our health.

What people do with that information is up to them.

Vegans are not deviant – rather we are reverting to the diet that humans started off on, as our physiology and digestive system indicate.

The deviation occurred when we started eating animals.
