SIR – Nancy Dyson raises a fair point in her letter (Worcester News, February 6).
We pedestrians always get neglected in icy conditions.
Years ago, good samaritans cleared neighbours’ paths and pavements of snow and ice. Now that spirit has disappeared, possibly because they are more concerned about driving their cars on treated roads. A grit bin situated at suitable sites would not go amiss, nor council mini-pavement gritters.
No doubt the answer would be that the council could not afford it, but what about the saving to the NHS on the treatment of broken limbs?
I have forgotten, too, that there will soon be very few council workers left, with all the talks about cost cutting and privatisation.
