Want a change? Then wait for an election

SIR – Labour’s coup at last week’s annual city council meeting showed the contempt certain politicians have for the electorate of Worcester.

It cannot be right that 15 out of 35 councillors are to provide the administration of our council, especially when the electors in the wards of the other parties (Liberal Democrat and Green) have repeatedly demonstrated their non-support for this administration by the low level of support for Labour.

The Lib Dems’ motives are extremely questionable, especially as they agreed to a “memorandum of understanding” with the then leader Simon Geraghty last year, which was made available to all parties, including the Press, before last year’s annual council meeting.

Such a document was not available to view before the vote to remove the leader, showing the level contempt these parties have towards other councillors, council officers and the media.

I represent the Warndon Parishes area on the city council.

No one has ever asked my electors whether they want a Labour administration and whether they are prepared to pay more in council taxes to fulfil Labour’s yet-to-be-known spending plans.

The time to change a council’s administration is at election time – next year provides that perfect opportunity.

STEPHEN HODGSON

Worcester city councillor,

Warndon Parish North
