SIR – Is it any wonder that health leaders in north Worcestershire are considering joining the Birmingham Trust (Worcester News, June 5)?

Hitherto,Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has done a very good job in giving the county a service second to none in the country.

But contemplating downgrading 75 per cent of emergency at Redditch A&E when even now Worcestershire Royal is struggling to maintain its targets just isn’t a sensible option.

Naturally alarm bells are ringing at the Alexandra in Redditch and who can blame the staff?

The rest of the county, according to surgeons, would be faced with disaster as they say a trust needs a population of between 500,000 and 750,000 to stay viable and losing Redditch and Bromsgrove (some 180,000 to 200,000 people) could be catastropic for the rest of the county.

As your Comment (Worcester News, June 5) said: “All the more reason for our MPs to take greater interest in this affair.”
