SIR – As reported by the organisation Workplace Law last month, a government survey has found that one in three absences from work are due to stress or anxiety.

This made me think of the recent Worcester News report on staff absence within Worcester City Council.

I am now even more inclined to believe that there has been a rise in staff absence due to increased workloads caused by cuts.

Surely the further 10 per cent cut in the budget for local government is likely to make things worse?

I completely agree with letter writer Gary Kibblewhite (Worcester News, June 12) that we all need to appreciate the importance of council staff and look after them and their health.
