SIR – Given that the elusive [Edward] Snowden has betrayed his country by divulging its secrets to its enemies and the rest of the world, why does the Times, in common with the rest of the media, refer to him as a whistleblower and not a traitor?

Whistleblower is a term commonly ascribed to those individuals who risk their careers by divulging malpractice and negligence, not to those who betray their country and put its security at risk.
