SIR – Why did so many of our elected representatives (from the safety of their armchairs) ignore the wishes of the majority of the people and agree with Mr [David] Cameron that we should rain death and destruction on the people of Syria on the dubious word of his American partners.

There appears to be as many authoritative voices claiming that the gas attack in Syria was an American false flag as there are willing to accept that it was the work of the Syrian government.

There appears to be no evidence to either claim. It seems that the word of Mr [Barack] Obama and his friend in Downing Street is sufficient for them to support the killing of many more Syrians than the gassing did.

It was very disappointing that not one of our Worcestershire MPs voted against the action.
