SIR – Well done, Worcester News (September 11) for revealing that Peter Luff MP earns £37,000 per year extra for two jobs, over and above what he gets as an MP, and one of those jobs was £1,000 for one day’s work per month.

But what astonished me the most was his excuse for this, saying that MPs should work in “the real world”.

The real world? Is this the real world?

A lot of people would be happy to pick-up £37,000 alone, so get real, Mr Luff.

Perhaps based on his feeble excuse then, in the real world all parliamentarians should be forced to live as a lot of other people have to, such as no fixed hours of work, no fixed contracts of work, reduced benefits, the bedroom tax, etc – the list goes on and on.

Then MPs would know what the real world is really like.

Failing that, then parties should ban MPs from having second jobs unless they are for unpaid charitable positions.
